#2 ~ General Doodle Breed FAQ’s

A Doodle is a mix between a Poodle and another breed, such as a Golden Retriever or Bernese Mountain Dog. The goal is to combine the Poodle’s intelligence and low-shedding coat with the gentle, loyal traits of the other parent breed.

Here on our farm, we raise Mini Goldendoodles and Mini Bernedoodles. They have loving personalities, smart minds, and coats that are easy to live with. These dogs have proven to be some of the best companions we’ve ever raised.

No dog is completely hypoallergenic, but Doodles are often a good choice for families with allergies. Their coats shed less and release less dander than most breeds.

If allergies are a concern in your home, we always recommend spending time around a Doodle first to see how you react. Many of our families with mild allergies do very well with our puppies.

Most of our puppies are very low-shedding, especially those from F1b generations. You may see a little hair now and then, but it is minimal compared to heavy-shedding breeds. Regular brushing keeps their coats soft, tangle-free, and looking great while also keeping your home tidy.

These letters describe the puppy’s generation. F1 means first generation, which is one Poodle parent and one Retriever or Bernese parent. F1b means one parent is a Doodle and the other is a Poodle, making them more likely to have a low-shedding coat.

Multigen means both parents are Doodles, so the coat and traits are often more predictable. We always let you know the generation of each litter so you understand what to expect.

Our Mini Goldendoodles and Mini Bernedoodles usually grow to around 20 to 35 pounds as adults. Every puppy is unique, so there’s always a little variation, but we can give you a good estimate based on the size and build of the parents.

We love helping families plan for their new addition and making sure the puppy will fit comfortably into your home and lifestyle.

A: With proper nutrition, regular veterinary care, and plenty of love and attention, most Doodles live between 12 and 15 years.

They become cherished members of the family, bringing joy, companionship, and loyalty for many wonderful years. We think of them as a long-term partner in your family adventures.

#3 ~ Doodle Puppy FAQ’s

Puppies are ready to go home at 8 weeks old. By that time, they are weaned, healthy, and well socialized. We use those early weeks to make sure they get used to handling, household sounds, and outdoor play.

Our parent dogs are ICA registered, which is a registry that recognizes hybrid breeds like Doodles. Puppies do not come with registration papers unless you choose to pay an additional fee for them.

Most Doodles are not registered through the AKC since they’re a hybrid breed, but we focus on something far more important: genetic health, temperament, and family readiness. Each parent is carefully chosen for strong genetics and a loving personality. We believe your puppy’s health and quality matter more than any piece of paper.

Our puppies are currently eating Purina Puppy Chow Chicken & Rice Formula, which provides balanced nutrition to support healthy growth and development. When your puppy goes home, we’ll send a small bag of the same food so you can keep them on a familiar diet or slowly transition to a new one if you prefer.

We also give our puppies NuVet Plus, a daily supplement that supports immune, hip, and joint health. We recommend continuing with NuVet Plus to help your puppy stay strong and healthy as they grow.

Yes, each puppy goes home with a small care package that includes a blanket with mom’s scent, vet records, and some of the food they’re used to eating. These little touches help make their transition smoother and more comforting.

Our puppies are raised right alongside our family, so they experience daily life from the start. They get used to being held by children, hearing normal household sounds, and exploring outdoors.

This hands-on socialization helps them grow into well-adjusted, confident dogs that fit easily into new homes.

Prices can vary depending on the litter, breed, and color. We’re always upfront about pricing and happy to answer questions. You can contact us directly to learn more about available puppies and current costs.

#4 ~ Training & Behavior FAQ’s

Yes, Doodles are very intelligent and eager to please. They respond best to positive reinforcement, gentle guidance, and consistent routines. Spending a little time each day teaching basic commands, social skills, and manners goes a long way. Many families are surprised at how quickly their puppies catch on to new commands and routines. Training also gives your puppy mental stimulation, which helps prevent boredom and unwanted behaviors.

Poodles are among the smartest dog breeds, and that intelligence carries over to their Doodle puppies. Doodles learn quickly and enjoy being part of your daily life. They love mental challenges, games, and learning new tricks. Their curiosity and problem-solving skills make them ideal for more advanced training, therapy work, or even dog sports. They thrive when they are engaged, which makes training a fun and rewarding experience for both the dog and family.

Absolutely. Doodles are friendly, gentle, and highly adaptable, which makes them a great fit for first-time dog owners. Their forgiving nature and eagerness to please allow new owners to build confidence as they learn. They are social, patient, and responsive, which means even small children or less experienced owners can enjoy a positive and rewarding relationship with their Doodle.

Doodles are usually moderate barkers. They may alert you when someone is at the door or bark with excitement during play, but they are not prone to constant or excessive barking. Starting early with training for quiet behavior helps establish boundaries and keeps your home peaceful. They are also quick to learn cues for when it is appropriate to bark and when it is time to relax.

Puppies need short, frequent play sessions throughout the day, combined with plenty of rest and naps. As they grow, Mini Doodles generally thrive with 30 to 60 minutes of activity daily, which can include walks, playtime in the yard, fetch, or interactive games with the family. Mental exercise is just as important as physical activity. Training sessions, puzzle toys, and gentle challenges help keep their minds sharp and their energy focused in positive ways.

Yes. Our puppies are raised with children from the start and learn to be gentle and patient. They naturally enjoy socializing with people of all ages and usually get along well with other pets in the household.

Early exposure and guided introductions help Doodles develop strong social skills. By the time they go to their new home, they are friendly, adaptable, and ready to become a beloved part of the family.

#5 ~ Health & Care FAQ’s

We carefully screen our parent dogs for common genetic issues that are known to affect their breeds. This helps us raise healthy puppies and gives families confidence that they are bringing home a strong, well-cared-for puppy. We are happy to share details about each parent’s health clearances and test results. Knowing the parents’ health history helps you understand your puppy’s potential needs and ensures you feel confident in the health and longevity of your new family member.

Like all breeds, Doodles can have certain health risks, but thoughtful crossbreeding often reduces the likelihood of inherited problems. We carefully select our parent dogs based on temperament and health history to promote strong genetics.

We are happy to provide detailed information about each parent so you can see exactly what we do to support long-term health. Our goal is to raise puppies who are lively, happy, and as healthy as possible.

Regular grooming is important for keeping your Doodle comfortable and looking their best. Brushing several times a week prevents mats and tangles and helps maintain a soft, healthy coat.

Most families also schedule professional grooming every six to eight weeks to keep the coat tidy, check nails, and maintain ear health. Grooming is also a great way to bond with your puppy and establish a positive routine.

Puppies need several vet visits in the first months for vaccinations, deworming, and general checkups.

After they are grown, annual visits are usually enough for wellness exams and vaccinations unless your veterinarian recommends otherwise. Regular vet care helps catch any potential issues early and keeps your puppy healthy for many happy years.

Every puppy is examined by a veterinarian and receives age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming before leaving our care. We provide a complete record of everything that has been done, so your veterinarian can continue the schedule from there. This gives you peace of mind that your puppy is protected and ready for a safe transition into your home.

We offer a one-year health guarantee that covers genetic conditions. Our goal is to raise healthy puppies and provide ongoing support for your puppy’s well-being. If you ever have questions or concerns about your dog’s health, we are here to help and guide you. We want every puppy to thrive in their new home and be a long-term, happy part of your family.

#6 ~ Lifestyle Fit FAQ’s

Yes, many of our Mini Doodles thrive in apartments or condos. They adjust well as long as they get daily exercise and quality time with their family. They do not need a large yard to be happy.

What matters most is consistent walks, play sessions, and attention from you. With these routines in place, your Doodle will be a content, well-behaved companion, even in a smaller living space.

A backyard is nice for quick potty breaks and outdoor play, but it is not a requirement. Many of our families live in townhomes or city apartments and provide plenty of activity with daily walks, trips to the park, and interactive play sessions.

Doodles thrive on human interaction and mental stimulation more than space alone. Your time and involvement are what they value most.

Mini Doodles generally do well with 30 to 60 minutes of activity per day. This can include a neighborhood walk, playing fetch, or running around with the kids in the yard. They enjoy being active but are not overly demanding or high-strung. The key is consistency and variety so they stay physically and mentally engaged.

Yes, they do. Their intelligence, calm temperaments, and love for people make them wonderful therapy and emotional support dogs.

Doodles thrive when they have a meaningful role alongside their human companions.

Many families with allergy concerns do very well with Doodles. Their low-shedding coats produce less dander than most breeds, which makes them easier to live with.

Puppies with curlier coats are often the best choice for households sensitive to allergens. Spending time with a Doodle before adopting is always a good idea to ensure compatibility with your family.

Most Doodles travel very well. They enjoy being part of family adventures, whether it is a road trip, a camping weekend, or a day at the lake. Starting them young with short, positive car rides helps them develop confidence and calmness in the car.

Once accustomed, they are happy to join you anywhere, making them wonderful companions for families who like to stay active and explore together.

#7 ~ Adoption & Breeding FAQ’s

Look for a breeder who genuinely cares about the health and happiness of their puppies, not just making a sale. A good breeder will be transparent about how their dogs are raised, allow you to see where the puppies grow up, and provide health records for both parents. They’ll also take time to answer your questions and help you find a puppy that fits your family, not just push you into a quick decision.

At Hidden Road Doodles, we raise every litter in a clean, family environment with lots of daily interaction, love, and early training. Our goal is to send home confident, healthy puppies who are ready to be part of your life for years to come.

#8 ~ Mini Goldendoodle Specific FAQ’s

Most of our Mini Goldendoodles reach about 20 to 35 pounds as adults. They are a perfect medium size that works well for many families. They are small enough to live comfortably indoors, yet large enough to enjoy active outdoor time. This size makes them easy to travel with and manage around children, while still providing all the energy and personality of a larger dog.

Mini Goldendoodles are affectionate, happy, and love being part of family life. They thrive on human interaction and enjoy spending time with kids, lounging nearby, or going on family outings. They have cheerful, friendly personalities that bring warmth and joy to the home. They are intelligent and intuitive, often picking up on your mood and responding with playfulness or calm affection depending on the situation.

It depends on the puppy’s generation and genetics. Some puppies inherit more of the Golden Retriever’s calm, loyal nature, while others take after the Poodle’s playful intelligence. Most end up with a balanced mix of both traits, which is why they are so easy to love. You get a companion that is smart, affectionate, and adaptable to many household lifestyles.

About 30 to 45 minutes of activity each day is usually enough. This can include walks, playtime, and quality time with family. They have plenty of energy for outdoor fun but are not overwhelming, which makes them well suited for families with children, couples, or individuals who want a lively yet manageable dog. Regular play and mental stimulation also help keep them happy and well-behaved.

Shedding is usually very light, especially for puppies with curlier coats. You may notice a little hair here and there, but it is minimal compared to a purebred Golden Retriever. Regular brushing and grooming keep their coats soft, clean, and free of tangles. This also helps prevent mats, keeps their skin healthy, and strengthens the bond you share during grooming sessions.

#9 ~ Mini Bernedoodle Specific FAQ’s

Mini Bernedoodles typically reach between 25 and 45 pounds once fully grown, depending on the size of their parents. They are a perfect in-between size, sturdy enough to join you on hikes and outdoor adventures, yet small enough to handle easily around the house or when traveling. Many families love this balance, since it gives you all the fun and personality of a larger dog without the extra bulk.

Mini Bernedoodles are known for their affectionate and easygoing nature. They thrive on companionship and quickly form deep bonds with their families. You will notice their gentle side around children and their playful, goofy energy during playtime. They are also highly intelligent and intuitive, often tuning in to your mood and matching your energy. They are active when you are and calm when you are ready to rest.

Most Mini Bernedoodles shed very little, especially those with curlier coats that take after the Poodle parent. Regular brushing helps keep their coat soft, free of mats, and easy to manage. Families often appreciate that these dogs are much cleaner and lower-shedding than many other breeds, making them a good choice for people with mild allergies or anyone who prefers a tidier home.

Absolutely. Mini Bernedoodles are incredibly family-oriented. They love being part of daily life, playing in the yard, tagging along on car rides, or just curling up on the couch. They are gentle with children and usually get along well with other pets, especially when raised together. Their patience and loving temperament make them an easy fit for homes of all kinds.

Because of their wavy or curly coats, Mini Bernedoodles do best with regular grooming. Brushing several times a week prevents tangles and mats, and a professional trim every six to eight weeks keeps them comfortable and tidy. A consistent grooming routine also helps you spot any skin or ear issues early. Many families find that grooming time becomes a bonding activity, and your doodle will enjoy the attention.

Mini Bernedoodles come in a beautiful mix of colors and markings. The classic tri-color of black, white, and rust is very popular, but we also see bi-color and solid coats in shades of cream, chocolate, sable, or merle. Each puppy’s coat is completely unique, which makes picking your new companion such a special experience.
